Agrarian Utopia seeded into Vancouver's Dragons and Tigers line-up

Uruphong Raksasad's Agrarian Utopia, set to make its Bangkok debut this month in the Documentary Showcase at the Bangkok International Film Festival, will be heading back out again in October for Vancouver International Film Festival, where it will make its North American premiere in the Dragons and Tigers program.

Other films that are in the Bangkok line-up will also be making their way to Vancouver for the Dragons and Tigers competition. These include the BKKIFF Main Competition entry Adrift by Thac Chuyen Bui from Vietnam, Jermal, an Indonesian entry in BKKIFF's Southeast Panorama by Ravi L. Bharwani and Rayya Makarim, and two that are in BKKIFF's Southeast Asian Competition, Moon at the Bottom of the Well by Nguyen VInh Son from Vietnam and Independencia by Raya Martin from the Philippines.

A recent press release has the lineup so far.

There's also a sneak preview (PDF) and in scanning through it, I saw a couple other items of interest. There's Burma VJ, playing the BKKIFF's documentary section of course, but then there's another documentary I've never heard of, Today Is Better Than Two Tomorrows, about two 11-year-old cousins living on the Mekong in Laos who find their rural lives disrupted when their uncle insists they study in the city and learn English. Four years in the making, it's directed by Anne Rodgers.

VIFF runs from October 1 to 16.
